Letting the Grass Grow!
Have you been wondering why the grass is longer along the lake shore than in past years? Some residents have been asking why there are a large amount of lily pads and why the long grass.
It is not laziness on the part of those mowing the lawn. According to Village Administrator Tracy Sayers, it is being mowed the way the mowers have been asked to do so to help protect the waters of the lake.
In the continuing efforts of the village, in cooperation with Springfield Township, equal partners in the protection of the lake, leaving the grasses along the lake shore longer helps to filter out the bad things that pollute the lake waters.
The same goes for the lily pads. It all helps to filter the runoff that is harmful to the lake's waters. The village has been working on the old sanitary sewer lines to prevent leakage however, it is something that takes time and money. The council and administration are working hand in hand to acquire grant monies to get more work done on the sewer lines.
