Holiday Event Pictures and Rundown for the village

Here is a run down and pictures of holiday happenings enjoyed by many this year. Residents and businesses volunteered and donated to help others throughout the village and township.

The Springfield Township Women's Club held its annual craft bazar in November. It was a success with plenty of vendors, gift ideas, decorations and homemade food. The club, which is made up of members from the township and village, supports many community needs throughout the year.

The police department held a very successful Fill A Cruiser event for two days at Dollar General on Canton Road. Shoppers donated toys, clothes, non perishable food items and money to help support Springfield Cares.

Officers volunteered their time to man the cruiser and greet the shoppers as they made their donations.

Village officials participated in Shop With A Cop taking local students shopping with law enforcement to purchase Christmas gifts for themselves and many bought for family members. They road in a caravan of police, fire, army vehicles from Springfield High School to Walmart with sirens blaring, lights flashing and back to the high school. There were many smiles on faces and maybe just more on the officers and chaperons and Walmart employees than the students. Back at the school the visited with Santa, ate pizza while the elves wrapped their presents.

The village council members hosted the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Due to construction it was not held at the Municipal building but the Methodist Church. There was Santa, cookies, hot cocoa, and horse drawn carriage rides. It was a wonderful evening in the village.

The Springfield Schools held food drives to support Springfield Cares. Between the donations collected in the village and the township events, more than 90 residents were supported during their holidays with food and items for the children. The organization runs strictly on the donations provided by the village and township each year.

For the first time, a Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt was held for community members to enjoy reading the clues and finding the answers in a variety of locations. A good time was had and a winner will be awarded with a prize.

Many residents, businesses and groups participated in the events and helped in many ways. Here are some photos from those events.
